ISN Certification Program — Project Leadership & ROI Analysis

ABM Equipment

Overview

ABM Equipment needed to become ISN Certified to unlock new customer opportunities, meet compliance requirements, and remain competitive in regulated markets. I was tasked with owning the certification effort end-to-end—despite no prior internal framework or precedent for completing the process.

This project required translating an external compliance standard into a clear, executable internal plan while balancing cost, time, and operational impact.

My Role

I served as the project owner and coordinator, responsible for:

  • Interfacing with a third-party ISN certifier to understand requirements

  • Converting certification criteria into a structured, trackable project plan

  • Estimating total certification cost and operational effort

  • Analyzing return on investment to support leadership decision-making

Approach

I began by working directly with the third-party certifier to fully understand ISN requirements, documentation standards, and ongoing compliance expectations. From there, I built a dedicated project management workflow in Smartsheet to manage the process.

The project plan included:

  • Over 50 discrete tasks, sequenced and assigned

  • Review and preparation of 10+ compliance and policy documents

  • Creation of ABM’s ISN profile and onboarding within the ISN platform

  • Cost tracking for certification, documentation, and administrative effort

  • Timeline forecasting for certification completion

To ensure leadership alignment, I paired execution planning with a financial recovery model, evaluating how quickly the certification investment could be recouped through production.

Business Impact & Results

Through ROI analysis, I determined that:

  • Producing 10 ISN-certified stainless steel tanks per month

  • At an average sale price of ~$5,000 per unit

  • Would fully recover certification costs in approximately four months

This analysis reframed ISN certification from a compliance expense into a strategic revenue enabler, giving leadership confidence in both the investment and execution plan.

Outcome

The ISN certification initiative delivered:

  • A clear, repeatable compliance framework

  • Improved internal project visibility and accountability

  • Data-backed justification for certification investment

  • Expanded access to ISN-required customers and projects

Key Skills Demonstrated

  • Project management & workflow structuring

  • Cross-functional coordination with external partners

  • Compliance translation into operational systems

  • Financial modeling & ROI analysis

  • Process documentation and execution planning
